Are Hoodia and Chantix safe to take together?
I am taking hoodia 57 about 6 pills a day (2 b4 each meal) and started taking chantix (a quit smoking pill) yesterday does anyone know if they are safe or unsafe to take together?
Before I answer your question, I must preface my answer by stating I am not a doctor! Furthermore, as others have suggested already, I would definitely recommend you ask your doctor before taking hoodia. Having said that, here is my opinion…
It should be safe to take hoodia and Chantix at the same time and here’s why I say that…
Chantix works by stimulating the release of low levels of dopamine in your brain to help reduce the signs and symptoms of withdrawal. In addition, Chantix blocks nicotine receptors in your brain.
Hoodia, on the other hand, works differently. Hoodia gordonii contains a molecule called, P57. This molecule tricks the brain into thinking you are full. It does that by mimicking the effect that glucose has on your brain. When you eat your food is broken down into glucose (blood sugar). When the glucose in your body rises the receptors in the hypothalamus – the part of the brain responsible for your appetite – are stimulated and it signals to your brain that you are full. When you take hoodia, the active molecule, P57, tricks the brain into thinking you are full even though you haven’t consumed any food.
Given how these two products work, I wouldn’t think there would be any conflicts or dangers. However, I’m not a doctor so I advise you to talk to your doctor to confirm.
If you do decide to take hoodia, just be sure that what you take is authentic. Most of the hoodia supplements on the market today are fake. It’s very easy to get scammed. There are only three brands that I currently recommend because I know they contain 100% authentic hoodiag gordonii and nothing else. They are Desert Burn, Hoodoba, and Hoodia Hoodia.
